At only a few metres above sea level, Tuvalu faces threat from rising waters.  One of the projects aimed at finding a way to shore up Tuvalu’s shoreline is a project to “grow” sand.  The sand is really tiny star shaped coral.

I came across the project research site, just near the port on Funafuti.  It consists of some aquariums set up under an awning and between some shipping containers.  It is a joint project with Japanese researchers from Tokyo University.
